Yay! Today was the day. We dropped off $250 to the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona. All thanks to you!
My mom, Elliot and I met the new executive director of the Diaper Bank, Leslie Schellie who happily accepted our $250 check and a few packs of diapers we had to donate. Leslie was super busy preparing for their Dancing with the Stars 2012 event but she did take a few minutes to chat with us about the Diaper Bank.
Leslie was not not only passionate about the Diaper Bank but super sweet too. Elliot was in a shy mood at first but she charmed him right out of it!
There are lots of causes I could support but as a mom the Diaper Bank is really at the top of my list. I can’t even imagine the heartache parents go through when they don’t have the resources to keep their babies in clean diapers.
I entered the blog contest with just the goal of winning $250 for the Diaper Bank. However after reading some of your comments, I realized how impactful my post was in raising awareness of diaper issues including the high cost of diapers, the lack of public assistance and the existence of diaper banks.
While I appreciated everyone’s comments, here are a few of my favorites:
I had never heard of a diaper bank, until this post. What an awesome organization and a great cause! … Thanks so much for sharing the information! Glenda
This is such a great way to raise money for this cause, in addition to making people aware of this and possibly other organizations in their community! Jessica
I didn’t realize that diapers weren’t covered by public assistance programs! Thanks for the education and supporting a great cause! Amanda
Your post reminded me of how fortunate we are. This is a good cause…thanks for sharing! Jackie
It really is a wonderful thing you’re doing. Diapers are darn expensive and when people can’t afford food and rent let alone diapers its the diapers that get skimped on. People leave their babies in wet or soiled diapers longer than is healthy because they need to make them last. Thanks for blogging about this! Amy
I can’t believe diapers aren’t a part of the WIC or food stamp program. It’s a shame! Claire
I can’t believe food stamps don’t cover diapers! What a basic and important thing. As a couponer I could definitely donate diapers. I have no kids so I tend to just ignore the diaper deals but this is eye opening. Thanks for posting about this. Nancy
It really is sad to see that this is reality for so many families in our area, When I have the resources available to me, I always try to help those in need. There is always someone out there that needs it more than I do. Leyla
Thanks to Amanda for hosting the contest and Moments in Frames for their generosity in sponsoring it. And thanks to all my friends who shared and tweeted about the giveaway but especially Becca and Sheryl who went above and beyond the call of duty!
And lastly thanks to YOU for helping me support a cause that is important to me. Your comments made a difference!
