We can’t get enough holiday movies this time of year. Especially when they include fun, crazy characters. We were recently sent the DreamWorks Holiday Collection, I knew it’d be a hit because the boys are fans of all the shows. The collection includes: Shrek the Halls, Kung Fu Panda Holiday, Merry Madagascar & Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury.
Shrek the Halls
Just when Shrek thought he could finally sit back, relax and enjoy his happily ever after with his new family, the most joyous of all holidays arrives. It’s Christmas Eve and everyone is filled with holiday cheer – except for Shrek. He isn’t exactly the picture of yuletide joy, but for the sake of Fiona and the kids, he tries to get into the spirit of things as only an ogre can. Unfortunately, everyone seems to have their own ideas about what Christmas is all about, so when Donkey, Puss in Boots, Gingerbread Man, and the whole gang try to join in on the fun, Shrek’s plans for a crazy family celebration end up spiraling into one truly unforgettable Christmas.
Kung Fu Panda Holiday
Po’s favorite holiday is the Winter Feast. Every year he and his father hang decorations, cook together all day, and serve noodle soup to a happy crowd of villagers. But this year, Shifu informs Po that as Dragon Warrior, it is his duty to host the highly formal Winter Feast at the Jade Palace. Po is caught between his obligations as the Dragon Warrior and his family traditions, between Shifu and Mr. Ping. As the holiday preparations escalate, Po finds it impossible to please both of them. In the end, Po follows his heart, showing both Shifu and Mr. Ping the true meaning of tradition, community and family.
From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda,” comes a brand new holiday adventure starring everyone’s favorite Central Park zoosters. “Merry Madagascar” begins when Santa and his sleigh unexpectedly crash-land on the island, giving the jolly gentleman a case of amnesia. So it falls to Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria-along with the ever inventive Penguins-to deliver the presents and save Christmas. And it doesn’t hurt that Santa’s sleigh just might be able to make a little trip to New York City, so they can finally return to their beloved home.
But during their appointed rounds, the four re-discover the magic of giving, and that it is ultimately more important than their own wish to return home. Throw in a long-lasting North Pole / South Pole rivalry between the Penguins and Santa’s reindeer, magic flying dust and a King Julien-based holiday called (what else?) “Julianuary,” and “Merry Madagascar” serves up a comic holiday story like no other.
Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury
Based on How to Train Your Dragon, the short takes place in the middle of preparing for the Viking winter holiday. After all dragons inexplicably fly away, with the last one of them unwittingly kidnapping Hiccup.
We already owned Merry Madagascar but the 4 show set is a great deal. It’s cheaper to by the 2 disc DreamWorks Holiday Collection vs buying just 2 of the movies! Currently under $13 with free 2-shipping if you have Amazon Prime! And my boys loved all 4 movies, we’ve already watched them a few times! I definitely recommend it and added it to my Holiday Gift Guide!
