Our next Disneyland trip for Mickey’s Halloween Party is quickly approaching. I love everything about disney trips, including the planning and anticipating. A couple years ago I made the boys a Countdown to Disney with display board. It was pretty basic and fun to make, we’ve actually used it on several trips over the years and you can imagine it’s getting quite beat up with two little boys
mangling managing it. I decided we need a new countdown to disney, s smaller one that might last longer and be easier to display.
I picked up a picture frame and disney stickers at the dollar store. I had mod podge, red duct tape, construction paper and scrapbook sitting in my craft supply stash.
Make sure you use a flat edged frame (vs. a “fancier” bevled/molded edge type) so that your stickers will apply flat. My dollar store only had one frame like that and it was shiny gold. So I started by wrapping the frame in red duct tape first to cover up the gold color. If your frame is already a color you like then you can skip this step.
Then I added my fun Disney stickers. I actually bought a new pack at dollar store even though we have tons of Disney stickers at home. I knew I needed them to be small enough to fit on the frame and I didn’t know if we had any at home or not.
Then I applied two thin coats of mod podge over the frame. I wanted to help the stickers “stay put” better! Make sure you let each coat dry in between.
What I love the most about this project is that we can customize it for each Disney trip by changing out the insert. This time we attached the fun picture “marker” from our old Disney countdown. It’s a nice way to bridge the change from our old countdown to the new one. Then we just added letter stickers to spell out “Days Until”.
Q then changes the number of days until Disney each morning. I love how this countdown encourages Q to practice writing his numbers in a fun way. Plus we can start counting down as far out as we want with this Disney Countdown.
I think it turned out pretty cute, plus you can’t beat frugal and easy too!
How do you countdown your trips to Disney?
