I love finding that perfect gift for someone during the holidays. But my favorite kind of presents to buy are those for the kids because Christmas for me is all about kids. Unfortunately, not every family has the ability to buy presents for their own kids. They struggle just to have enough to eat and pay their bills. So every year we donate toys to families in need. I usually pick up fun gifts on clearance throughout the year and donate a boxful to a local group. I also share a list of local groups collecting toys here on Desert Chica, hoping to encourage more people with the means to pick up an extra toy or two.
We always pick a couple names off a giving tree too. There’s something extra fun about buying a specific gift for a specific person. Ever since the boys were able to walk, I’ve let them pick out these gifts. We typically choose boys around their age because they’d likely have similar taste. You can often find angel trees in the mall or other retail spaces making it easy to grab a gift while you’re shopping.
This year our school made it’s own gifting tree for families at our school that need help. So we chose two boys off that tree to buy for this year. I love knowing that our gifts will help make the holidays a little easier for a couple families at our school. And I really hope the boys love the gifts we picked out!
From donating toys and warm coats to canned good and money, there are many ways to give back during the holidays. Helping doesn’t always require money or things, though. Many organizations appreciate your time and a couple hours volunteering can be just as valuable. There’s also the free Donate a Photo app. For every photo shared through the app, Johnson & Johnson donates $1 to one of it’s trusted, non-profit partners. You even get to choose which partner it benefits.
Save the Children
Save the Children is a group I’ve written about before and is one of the important causes that you can support through the app. You can also purchase a gift from the Save the Children “Gifts of Joy” holiday catalog. If you do purchase a gift from the holiday catalog, Johnson & Johnson will match each donation up to $450,000! Johnson & Johnson has been a long-time partner of Save the Children, I really appreciate that they focus on kids around the world.
Donate A Photo App
Please consider sharing a photo through the Johnson & Johnson Donate a Photo app. Not only does it raise funds but also awareness for causes that you care about. It’s so easy and can be shared to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. With more awareness for your supported cause and the app, more people can be inspired to get involved. You are limited to one photo each day. Almost 2 million photos have been donated since the launched in 2013!
Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
