Labor day weekend is upon us and it’s the perfect time to take a quick getaway over the long weekend! Peter and I are actually taking a SUPER quick 1-night trip to San Diego to see a band perform. While it’s not an ideal trip, it’s on the bucket list and so *very* necessary. 😉
Here are a few easy long weekend getaway ideas.
Heading to Phoenix does not get you out of the heat but there are plenty of fun resorts to stay at including the Westin Kierland and Hyatt Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch. We just stayed at the Hyatt a few weeks ago and loved the pool with a beach. The boys can’t wait to go back! From SeaLife Aquarium and Phoenix zoo to fun in Scottsdale there is plenty of activities to keep you busy in the Phoenix area.
Getting out of the heat is a very popular option over Labor day weekend. The gorgeous Flagstaff weather makes for a great respite from the desert heat. There is plenty of hiking and nature exploring available. I recommend heading to Bearizona – drive thru wildlife park in Williams, it’s a very unique animal experience. And we enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Flagstaff last year, they even had an indoor pool that the big boys loved!
3. The White Mountains
The Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside area is another option for getting out of the heat in Arizona. It has an awesome small town vibe, with various festivals and fairs happening all summer long. The Fool Hollow Lake recreation area offers lots of options from hiking and boating to fishing and camping. If hotel stays are more your thing (they are mine!), I recommend the Holiday Inn Express Show Low. Maybe avoid the Super 8 in Show Low though….
If you are looking for an even smaller town experience, you can drive further to Greer. We had an awesome stay at a cabin up there last year. There are lots of fishing and hiking options up there too.
4. San Diego
And of course San Diego is always a good option. I would recommend going for three nights and not one like we are doing this weekend though. :-/ Just hanging out on the beach and enjoying the weather is an awesome way to spend your long weekend. If your kids insist on more activities than of course I recommend LEGOLAND, SeaWorld or the San Diego Zoo. We loved staying at the LEGOLAND hotel and the Paradise Point Resort is a long time family favorite!
