Strange Magic is a new animated fairytale from the mind of George Lucas. Last week I had the pleasure of listening to George Lucas speak about this movie and the process of making it over the past 15 years. Strange Magic is a love story, actually multiple love stories taking place over one day. Oh and it’s a musical featuring about 25 love songs over the course of the film.
It is a super cute film full of fairies and forest animals but the big question for me is….
Will boys like a fairytale musical love story?
I think my little boys will like Strange Magic. The movie is full of fairies but also goblins, elves, imps and other fantastic forest creatures. Plus they won’t be able to resist the sword fighting and silliness.
3 Characters My Boys Will Love:
Sunny is definitely my favorite character in the movie. He is the little elf that could and will not give up. He also has a big voice and sings some fantastic songs in the movie.
The Bog King is the cranky leader of the dark side of the forest.
The Imp is a furry little guy who acts a bit crazy in the film. I am sure he will be a favorite among most kids.
Will Adults Like Strange Magic?
Parents will enjoy the positive messages in the movie and fun soundtrack. It’s a musical of love songs, but popular love songs from the past 60 years so adults will likely know most (if not all) of them. I am not a big fan of musicals but I did like this fun movie. The songs are used to tell the story in a clever way and using pop songs really worked. The Strange Magic soundtrack is already available, so you can check out some of the songs from the movie ahead of time.

I attended press events with Disney to promote #StrangeMagicEvent and #PixarInsideOut. I was provided with an expenses paid trip to San Francisco in exchange for my coverage about the events. No other compensation is given. As always, opinions and experiences are my own. Photos courtesy of Disney.
