My family is very familiar with the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic. I prefer to use it for quick check ups when someone isn’t feeling well. My boys often catch the crud from classmates and sometimes it develops into a secondary infection that needs more than just TLC. Both Peter and I also use the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic for the same reason; usually after the boys have generously passed to crud to us. 😉
Why are we fans? Check out our top 5 reasons why we love the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic!
1. Convenient locations
Luckily for us, there is a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic less than 1/2 mile from our house. We could actually walk if it wasn’t so ridiculously hot! There are more than 370 locations nationwide and they’re continually looking to expand. If you don’t have a healthcare clinic in your favorite Walgreens location, hopefully you will soon!
Plus the Walgreens app on my iPhone makes it easy to find a Walgreens nearby when traveling and also notes if that location features a healthcare clinic.
2. Make appointments and check wait times online
One of my favorite features is the ability to make my appointments online. Many walk-in healthcare clinics don’t offer appointments, Walgreens does. They only schedule a few appointments though leaving plenty of availability for walk ins. If there are no appointments available or you can’t wait, it’s easy to check their current wait times from the Walgreens website or on their phone app! It’s always nice to know how long your wait might be.
3. More office hours
Nurse practitioners are available 7 days a week and weeknights too. It never fails that the boys suddenly need to see a doctor (or nurse practitioner 😉 ) after regular office hours, or worse on the weekend. I hate waiting until 9am Monday to even speak with the doctor’s office, much less schedule an appointment and be seen.
4. Less exposure to other sick kids
The boys have a great pediatrician that will fit us in for same day appointments when necessary. Unfortunately that isn’t a special accommodation made only for my family. Their waiting room is often full of other sick little kids they fit into the schedule. 🙁 It’s an unfortunate occurrence during the cold and flu season but one I can avoid by using our local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic!
5. Convenient RX and other sickie essentials in the store
After our visit we can choose to have our RX sent to the on site Walgreens pharmacy, eliminating an additional stop. It’s not required though, if you prefer a different pharmacy you can fill your RX wherever you like. Personally, I love the the convenience of not dragging my sick kiddos to another location. Plus while they are filling the RX for me I can pick up a few groceries we might need. We always seem to be out of milk or bread and a couple cans of soup and crackers are a necessity with a sickie at home. Sometimes I even let the boys pick a movie from the redbox outside as well. 🙂
By the way, the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic has expanded the services it offers, including some monitoring and management of health conditions like diabetes. These clinics are a great option for people that don’t have health insurance, I know of family members who’ve stopped having chronic conditions monitored because of the high cost of office visits without insurance.
