Sometimes I’m given products to experience and then share with you. Today I am sharing one of my favorite such products, the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit. We had a great time meeting with the littleBits team during the Thor Ragnarok trip. We learned about their company and their mission and then had time to play with the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit. Once we came home, they sent us our own kit to experience with our family! What’s awesome about it? It combines STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) with Star Wars, the perfect combination for this former bioengineer & math teacher and super Star Wars fan! Read on for 5 reasons I think the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit rocks!
5 Reasons the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit Rocks
1. Simple & Engaging
This kit has around 30 pieces, pieces that kids can easily snap together. Or take apart and redo it again if you make a mistake. The age recommendation is 8+ but my 7-year-old had no trouble helping his brother put it together. It really is fun for the whole family.
2. App Instructions
I LOVE that the instructions are in the app. There is no booklet to decipher and/or lose – not that I ever do that. 😉 Think the opposite of IKEA instructions. Plus some of the instructions are animated and can be paused or rewatched if necessary. It’s so simple and easy to use.
3. Simple droid controls
The app also controls the droid and is simple enough for the youngest kids or technology-challenged grandparents to use.
4. DIY your own Droid
Everyone loves R2-D2 and the inclination to copy his design is there but there are other sticker options in the kit including blank ones, so you can create your own crazy, cool or rainbow droid if you want.
5. Not a model building kit
There is nothing wrong with models if you love them but they aren’t for everyone. This is a droid building kit that is meant for you to reinvent as many times as you want. You can redesign it as many times as you want. Speaking of inventing, checking out the droid competition below!
