Cars are definitely a favorite toy around this house. Quinn has always loved them and they are the first thing Elliot grabs each morning to play with!
Cars are cheap and it seems like we have picked up a ton of unique ones over the years including character and holiday themed ones. In fact I snagged these awesome Halloween ones at Target (70% off) just last week! They make cheap stocking stuffers!
Holiday themed ones seem to be available for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and even Valentines day… but I have never seen any for Thanksgiving. In fact I don’t see much Thanksgiving merchandise in general, so I guess it makes sense that I don’t see any Thanksgiving themed toys.
So I had a crazy idea to make some DIY Thanksgiving Hotwheels. This project could be just about free depending upon your supplies or pretty darn cheap if you are starting from scratch.
I started with 4 cars. ($1 each or free if pilfered from your kid’s room!)
Then I found super cute Thanksgiving stickers ($2 at Hallmark).
Finding the stickers was the hardest part of the project. Like I mentioned above, Thanksgiving merchandise is extremely limited and I only found a few different sticker options out there and almost all were too large (to fit on the cars) or were 3-D scrap booking ones that also would not work. It was a bonus they were Snoopy Thanksgiving stickers!
Mod Podge and a brush were all I needed to finish the project! ( ~$6) if you don’t have them already.

Even though I found “smaller” stickers, I still had to cut and crop them to get them to fit on the cars. And I would recommend sticking with vans! I think my vans turned out much better because of the larger surface area to decorate!
After I placed the stickers, I did 4-5 thin coats of mod podge letting it dry about 10 minutes between each coat.
After they were totally dry, the boys had a blast playing with their special Thanksgiving cars.
