I have to admit that Peter and I don’t go on nearly enough date nights anymore. Although with the boys getting older and “easier” to watch, I hope we can sneak away a little more often.
I was recently invited to review Rubio’s and since we already fans, it was easy to say yes. So Peter and I snuck off this week to run a few errands and eat dinner without the boys, a.k.a. “Midweek Mini Date Night”. (Thanks to Papa Joe and Grandma Patty)
Tuesday’s is Fish Taco night at Rubio’s ($1.50 Original Fish Tacos after 2:30 pm) so there was quite a line when we arrived. Luckily the restaurant was well prepared to handle the traffic and we were ordering our own food within 5 minutes.
We are already big fans of Rubio’s. Did I mention that already?!?
The biggest reason for me? Their fish tacos. They offer traditional fried ones, specialty ones and healthier options.
I also love that it’s counter service, the “quick ordering and paying feature” of fast food with the “sit down and enjoy your drink while they prepare and bring the food to you service” of a sit down restaurant.
Plus they have yummy beans, rice, chips and salsa.
I ordered my old stand by, a HealthMex Fish Taco plate. Peter ordered two Original Fish Tacos + one of the the new Sesame Soy Fish Tacos.
Unfortunately (or fortunately as it turns out) I was brought the Mango Habanero Ono Tacos instead of my expected HealthMex Tacos. After a quick conversation with the counter staff, they started correcting my order and graciously allowed us to keep the “wrong” ones while we waited.
This was a fortunate mistake because Peter discovered he REALLY enjoyed the Mango Habanero Ono Tacos, they are both sweet and spicy with lots of flavor.
I, on the other hand, found them to be too spicy. No problem, I am quite happy with my HealthMex tacos. Peter thought the new Sesame Soy Fish Taco was O.K. but did not compare to the Original Fish Tacos or the Mango Habanero Ono Tacos.
With our errands taking us to Home Depot and a Tux fitting, I am so glad we at least had a yummy dinner. Maybe we can shoot for a movie and yummy meal on our next date out!
