Looking for a super easy and more unique World Book Day costume? Instead of the more popular Dr. Suess characters, check out how easy it is to make a Mr. Brown Costume.
Need another Dr. Seuss costume idea besides the Cat in the Hat or the Lorax? Check out this simple Mr. Brown costume we made last year for Dr. Seuss Day.
Mr. Brown Costume
This costume is pretty simple to pull together with a few basic pieces of clothing. A brown shirt and brown pants are the base of this Dr. Seuss dress up idea. We swapped brown pants for khaki pants since we already had them.
Mr. Brown Costume Tie
Mr. Brown has three signature costume pieces. The first one is a big bright blue bow. It’s sort of skinny and flappy vs. a more structured bowtie. I found a ribbon in just about the right color that I tied into a bow and pinned to the brown shirt.
Mr. Brown Costume Hat
The brown top hat was the hardest part of the costume because we don’t own any top hats. 😉 Luckily I found this fairly simple hat tutorial. It’s made from about 1/2 yard of brown felt and a little hand sewing. I promise it wasn’t too hard using the instructions.
The last piece of the Mr. Brown costume is a mustache. Quinn opted out of the mustache idea but I know you can find simple stick ones at a discount store.
Mr. Brown Costume Materials
- brown t-shirt
- khaki or brown pants
- blue ribbon for a bow tie
- brown top hat
- mustache
By the way, Mr. Brown pairs really well with a Cat in the Hat costume!
