We are definitely Disneyland fans and while staying on site is fun, it’s also splurge we don’t do on most trips.
Our go-to hotel for Disneyland trips is the Howard Johnson Anaheim (HOJO). I think we have stayed there a dozen times over the years. Why? That’s easy!
My Top 3 Reasons to Stay at Howard Johnson Anaheim
#3 Convenient & Fun Hotel Features
The Howard Johnson has two different laundry facilities plus complimentary access to a computer and printer. Awesome if you pack light on clothes and leave your laptop at home!
There is a gift shop on site that carries a wide variety of grocery items perfect for easy breakfasts and snacks in your room. Directly across from the gift shop is an arcade that is fun if you are taking a break from the park. Perfect for older kids if the younger ones are napping!
My boys favorite part of staying at the HOJO is Castaway Cove, a pirate themed water playground. A hot tub and splash pad with toddler pool makes the area fun for all ages.
P.S. The garden pool also offers a traditional pool experience.
#2 Great Value
There are several room types available at the Howard Johnson Anaheim to meet a variety of budgets and needs. All rooms include a mini fridge and free internet. Plus most of the room types also include a microwave.
The rates they offer are similar to other nearby hotels but the HOJO offers much more on it’s 7 acre grounds. They also offer special discounts for Annual Passholders and Entertainment Card Holders, and even Super Family rates up to 50%.
There are also a select number of Kids Suites that include 2 rooms with a bunk bed in one room and king bed in the other! Check out my short, silly video tour of our Kids Suite last year.
You can check out the variety of Howard Johnson room layouts HERE and the amenities they offer.
#1 Location!
The Howard Johnson Anaheim is an 8 minute walk to the Disneyland Resort. It’s an easy walk for families that need to go back for afternoon naps. Here is a cute video about the location made by the HOJO.
And because the HOJO is so close to the Disneyland Resort, they have a great view of fireworks each night!
Watching the fireworks from Castaway Cove is a nice alternative if end up leaving the parks before the show. A great option for families with little kids that go to bed early!
Do you have a Disneyland Trip planned anytime soon? We loved our Halloween visit and I wish we had Christmas trip planned too!
Disclosure: We paid for our own room, however I was provided a media rate for our stay. Of course you guys know that the HOJO is my long time favorite Disneyland area hotel anyway. As all always all thoughts and opinions are my own.

That’s awesome Carrie! My mom says we stayed there once or twice as kids but she wasn’t really loyal to any one hotel.
I love how the HOJO has kept the retro charm but also the facilities up to date.

Awesome Becky! I am glad to share my secret and encourage others to stay there. And I am super happy they offer the Super Family rates, they aren’t quite as frequent and good as the days of $50 Entertainment rates but still a great value!

Love it! We’re planning a trip to Disneyland this summer while we are in Southern California. I’ll have to look into this hotel! (I haven’t sprung it on the hubs yet that I want to go for more than one day. hehehe)
