One of my New Years resolutions is to move more. I think it’s a lifestyle change that I can easily commit to and improve upon. As a blogger, I work from home a lot and I am on my computer (and butt) most of the day. I know increasing my overall activity level will improve my health, give me more energy, and hopefully lose weight.
Everyone’s activity level is different but a goal of moving more is one everyone can achieve. I don’t think goals can be achieved without a game plan, so I am sharing my ideas below on how you can move more this year.
1. Track Your Daily Activity
I recently started using a Jawbone UP24 to track my activity level. I think using any type of activity tracker (even your iPhone) to monitor your daily activity is key. I was quite surprised by how inactive I can be on a typical weekday. Once you establish a baseline of your regular activity, you can work towards increasing it.
2. Park Further Away
Parking further away in a parking lot is an easy way to get more steps every day. I’ve heard this tip before but never actually tried it, it’s now my standard operating procedure. I don’t use elevators on a typical day but choosing to take the stairs is a similar example.
3. More Family Walks
Making time for family walks each week is important. Our weather is pretty nice most of the year so it’s a reasonable weekly goal. Plus we only live a mile from Quinn’s school so walking to or from school is a dual purpose idea. It will take more time than driving but would also accomplish the family walk at the same time!
4. Treadmill Desk
Peter has promised to make me a treadmill desk. I won’t be able to run while working on my computer but walking some of the time is better than just sitting at my desk. I’ll be sure to share the details of my DIY Treadmill Desk once it’s complete, they seem fairly simple to build.
5. Dedicated Weekly Exercise Time
Commit to at least one additional exercise activity each week. If you don’t do any now, then you are just committing to one. If you already exercise three times a week, then try and squeeze in four. How much time and how many times of week really depends on your current activity level and schedule. Remember it’s all about moving MORE!
For me I find it easier to stay committed if I am meeting a friend and we are working towards a fun goal. We just completed the Star Wars Run Disney 10k last month!!
6. Support my health
In order to exercise and get moving, I need to be at my best. No one wants to exercise when they don’t feel well. Taking a proactive approach, I plan on drinking more water, eating more veggies and taking a supplement like Ester-C 24 Hour Immune Support*. I picked up a bottle of Ester-C recently, it’s now on Rollback at Walmart!
I think everyone knows that taking vitamin C regularly can help support* your health but Ester-C is the better vitamin C*. It’s designed to keep the vitamin C in your white blood cells for up to 24 hours, so your immune system is supported all day and night. One pill once a day and you are covered all the time!*
How do you plan on moving more this year?
