Need a last-minute Princess Peach costume without spending a fortune? You don’t need a fancy dress or sewing skills to transform yourself into the Mushroom Kingdom’s favorite princess!
I made this easy DIY Princess Peach costume using two sheets of bright pink poster board that cost just $1 each, plus a few inexpensive accessories and craft supplies I already had at home.
Inspired by the popular paper doll costume trend, I wanted to create a simple, flat version of Princess Peach’s iconic pink dress. The result was a fun, recognizable costume that’s perfect for Halloween, a Super Mario themed party, or a group costume.

DIY Princess Peach Costume Supplies
Here’s what I used:
- 2 sheets of bright pink poster board ($1 each)
- White poster board for making a template (already on hand)
- Pink crepe paper ($1.25)
- Blue and yellow colored printer paper
- Ribbon
- Clear packing tape
- Scissors
- Crown headband (repurposed from a silly birthday hat)
- Long white gloves (purchased for $9.99)
- Pink shirt to wear underneath (borrowed)
The pink poster board and crepe paper cost just $3.25 combined. The gloves were my biggest purchase, but I can reuse them for future costumes. If you have time, see if you can find someone to borrow a pair from.
One of the best things about this costume is that it requires absolutely no sewing or glue. I used clear packing tape to assemble the dress and attach the decorations.
How to Make a Princess Peach Costume From Poster Board
Step 1: Create a Dress Template
Before cutting into my pink poster board, I made a template using inexpensive white poster board I already had at home.
This allowed me to experiment with the shape and size of the costume without wasting the pink poster board I had purchased specifically for the dress.
I wanted the dress to have Princess Peach’s recognizable silhouette, with a narrower upper section and a wider skirt.

Step 2: Cut and Assemble the Pink Poster Board Dress
Once I was happy with my template, I used it as a guide to cut the two sheets of pink poster board.
The trick is to use the poster board in two different orientations.
I kept the upper section vertical for the bodice, but turned the second sheet horizontally (landscape orientation) to create a wider skirt.
This gave the dress a fuller shape without requiring additional poster board.
After cutting the pieces into the desired shape, I joined them together using clear packing tape (on the back) to create one large dress front.

Step 3: Add the Pink Crepe Paper Details
Princess Peach’s dress has different shades of pink, so I used pink crepe paper to add dimension to my simple poster board version.
I layered strips of crepe paper across the waist area to create the look of the decorative fabric on her dress. I also cut a few pieces of crepe paper to create a decorative neckline.
I used clear packing tape to attach the crepe paper to the poster board. No glue or sewing was necessary.

Step 4: Make the Blue Jewel
One of the most recognizable details on Princess Peach’s dress is the blue oval jewel. Instead of purchasing a plastic gem, I made mine using blue and yellow colored printer paper.
Cut a blue oval and attach it to a slightly larger yellow oval to create the jewel and its gold-colored border. Attach the finished jewel near the top center of the dress using clear packing tape.

Step 5: Add Ribbon Straps
To make the poster board dress wearable, I added ribbon straps using ribbon I already had at home.
I secured the ribbon to the back of the poster board with clear packing tape. The straps help hold the costume in place over a pink shirt. If the weather was warmer you could wear a tank top that doesn’t show instead.
A more elaborate version of this costume would include a matching back of the dress, making it more of a sandwich board costume design.

Step 6: Add the Princess Peach Accessories
The finishing touches really help bring this easy Princess Peach costume together.
I already had a small crown headband from a silly birthday hat, so it was perfect for this costume. I cut out a few small ‘jewels’ from pink and blue copy paper and taped them on.
I also purchased a pair of long white gloves to complete the princess look.
Paired with a borrowed pink shirt underneath, these simple accessories made the poster board dress instantly recognizable as Princess Peach.

Easy Princess Peach and Bowser Couple Costume
My Princess Peach costume was part of a last-minute Super Mario themed couple costume.
We also put together an easy adult Bowser costume using accessories from a kids’ costume kit, a yellow shirt, and jeans.
It was a fun way to create matching costumes without purchasing expensive adult-sized character outfits.

Tips for Making a Poster Board Princess Peach Costume
- Make a template first. Using inexpensive white poster board gave me a chance to experiment with the shape before cutting the pink sheets.
- Turn the skirt sheet sideways. Using the second sheet horizontally creates a wider skirt without purchasing additional poster board.
- Use clear packing tape. It worked for joining the poster board, attaching decorations, and securing the ribbon straps.
- Repurpose accessories. A birthday crown, borrowed pink shirt, and ribbon from my craft supplies helped keep the cost down.
- Keep it simple. The flat paper-doll style is part of the charm, so you don’t need to recreate every detail of Princess Peach’s actual gown.
Easy Homemade Princess Peach Costume for Adults
This DIY Princess Peach costume is a fun alternative to purchasing a traditional princess dress, especially if you want something inexpensive and easy to make.
You don’t need to sew a single stitch or use any glue to make this homemade princess costume, and the poster board makes it easy to customize the size and shape.
