I believe everyone has time to get creative with their family. I hope to inspire moms to enjoy more time with their kids making simple crafts, easy recipes, and homemade costumes. My designs are based on the idea that being crafty does not have to be complicated or elaborate to be successful and fun.
Like many other moms, I left a career in corporate America to stay home with my kids. In 2008 I created my first blog, Desert Deals Diva as a place to share how I saved money with my friends and family.
With two small boys, I needed activities I could manage easily and complete within their attention span (and my own). Plus as a boy mom, I sought ways to be creative and crafty with my sons that weren’t frilly. I found that I wanted to share our creative activities and travel adventures more than shopping deals and as a result Desert Chica was born.
Drawing upon the creativity, ingenuity, and problem solving skills from my previous life as a Quality Engineer, I take simple, inexpensive materials and transforms them into fun, creative, crafts the whole family will enjoy. From DIY snack time treats to complete costumes I provide step by step instructions for moms who would love to craft but do not know how to start. My projects are easy to follow and often can be made from items you already have in your home.
To get a better idea of what you’ll find on Desert Chica, here is a sample of some popular creative posts:
- Solar oven s’mores
- DIY Prince Charming costume
- Lightsaber Christmas lights
- Mary Poppins kite craft
- Baby Yoda Rice Krispies treats
- Book Character costumes
I also love sharing travel adventures, here is a sample of popular travel stories:
- Why Universal Studios is better than Universal Orlando
- 50 things to do in Tucson with Kids
- Tween activities aboard the Symphony of the Seas
- How to trade minifigures as LEGOLAND
- Why you shouldn’t buy a Universal Express Pass online
As a native of Tucson, I’m happy my husband and I are raising our two sons in Southern Arizona. Our boys are now a tween and teen, so our projects tend to be inspired by videos games more than Disney Junior now. Although I do have a tiny niece and nephew so I still appreciate making little people stuff. I’m down to create anything and everything as long as someone (even if it’s just me) enjoys it.
If I can do it, anyone can do it!
It truly makes me happy to bring some joy and simplicity to my readers. I hope after visiting Desert Chica, you are inspired to do something fun and creative. By the way, I love when readers send me photos of costumes or other crafts they’ve made that my tutorials have inspired.
