Do your kids love Pixar’s latest movie Onward? If they haven’t seen it yet, you can watch Onward on Disney+ starting Friday, April 3rd. After your kids watch Onward this weekend, they will love our new elf friends, Ian and Barley Lightfoot. Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring them an Onward Easter Basket this year!
Onward Easter Basket
I love creating fun themed easter baskets. We stopped using traditional baskets a long time ago, mostly because storing pastel wicker baskets we only use once a year is lame. I found decorating a plastic bin with a vinyl design was much more fun, I love easy creativity. Plus it’s more practical because we can store toys and books in them after Easter.
Star Wars baskets are always a big favorite around here but this year I couldn’t help brainstorming a basket idea for Pixar’s latest movie, Onward. As a boy mom, I love that the movie follows the adventures of two brothers. The basket itself is inspired by Guinevere, Barley’s awesome van in the movie.
DIY Onward Easter Basket
In order to create a Guinevere van basket, I started with a blue plastic container I already owned. It’s 11″ X 8″ X 6″ and I’m pretty sure it’s from a dollar store. I couldn’t find it online though but maybe you already own something similar like me. Alternatively, my 2nd version of the Onward Easter basket is a similarly sized cardboard box covered in blue duct tape. I actually like the duct tape version better, but I do love duct tape projects. 🙂
Then I added fun details to the box with black, white and purple vinyl, similar to the details thats Guinevere has in Onward. I found this cute Onward SVG file to use for Guinevere’s unicorn and tire details. I used the slice function in Cricut Design Space to cut away the excess part of the design I didn’t need for my basket. Then I used Cricut Design Space to create the moon and lightning details, find it here.
Onward Easter Basket Fillers
There are so many cute Onward Easter basket filler ideas online. Your biggest dilemma will be what can get shipped to you in time or picked up locally with limited stores open.
My kids are a little too old for action figures so I bought the Onward – Dad and Barley Lightfoot Funko Pops. Amazon is not prioritizing shipments of non essential items right now, so I opted to place a Game Stop pickup order.
That being said, I did order printer cartridges for all the coloring pages we are printing right now and Amazon had an estimated delivery date in mid April. The printer cartridges were delivered this weekend, several weeks before the scheduled date. So an Amazon order could arrive sooner than expected.
Rounding out the baskets are an Onward joke book, DIY Onward t-shirt, and Easter candy. I tried to pick Easter candy with blue and purple packaging to keep in theme. You can fill it with whatever candy your kids like. Or whatever candy you can easily find in stores!
Here are more fun ideas that would be great in the Onward Easter basket! Onward stuffed animals, Onward books, Onward shirts and Onward toys!
