I don’t use a makeup myself so I am always hesitant to use face paint for Halloween Costumes. However I partnered with Snazaroo to share this adorable cat burglar costume idea.

We made our robber Halloween costume idea a little punny by making it a cat burglar costume, literally with with cat ears, a cat tail and easy cat face paint.

This cat burglar costume is the perfect last minute Halloween costume idea for both kids and adults. You likely have most of what you need already at home.

DIY Burglar Costume

The costume itself is so easy to put together with items we already owned. Elliot already had a long sleeve black shirt, black pants, and black shoes in his closet. You could easily substitute the pants for black leggings and I bet most of things could be borrowed if you don’t already own them.

Cat Burglar Costume Accessories

We also had a cat costume accessory kit with the cat ears and tail in our dress up box. I only had to buy the black knit cap and a burlap runner that I turned into his loot bag by adding dollar sign.

The money bag could also be used to hold candy while trick or treating. I love a dual purpose costume accessory!

Easy Cat Face Paint

Easy cat burlgar costume face paint idea, start by painting a little black nose with black cat whiskers

Painting his face with a cat nose, cat whiskers and burglar mask using Snazaroo’s black face paint was super easy. I started with a black nose and whiskers. I used the paint brush that came with our kit and a little water to moisten the black paint.

Don’t forget the burglar mask, draw an outline of the face mask before filling it in.

Then I drew a mask outline around his eyes and filled it in. I kept the mask on the smaller side, just around his eyes so that it didn’t interfere with his cat face details.

This easy costume is a great alternative to elaborate costume ideas and is very comfortable to wear while trick or treating.

Other Robber Costume Ideas

With this easy last minute costume idea, I wanted something sweet for my little guy, so I chose a cat burglar costume. Part animal, part bad guy, but 100% adorable.

Historical costumes like a burglar or thief costume would consist of a striped shirt, black hat and face mask would also work. If you skip face paint, you can make a face mask using black felt with eye holes. Accessorize using a white money bag with a dollar sign painted on it. Or buy a bank robber kit.

Convict costumes could also wear a striped shirt and pants but that seems a little old fashioned. Nowadays convicts are typically portrayed wearing bright orange jumpsuits in jail. Either way, I’d add numbers across the front for the prisoner ID.

If you are looking for a more kid friendly bank robber costume, then check out our Beagle Boys costume from Duck Tales. It’s super easy to make with a black felt face mask, red shirt and green cap.

Elliot opted to wear his costume and face paint after our photo shoot last weekend, and it lasted all day. Then it easily washed off in the shower that night with a wet washcloth. I was honestly surprised how easy it was to work with and clean off afterwards. I wouldn’t hesitate to us it again on for another costume design.

More about Snazaroo

Check out the Snazaroo website for more elaborate face painting tutorials and ideas. I love the pumpkin mask idea!

Snazaroo Face Paint is washable which means I could use a wet cotton swab to correct any slight mistakes I made as I created the cat burglar face. While the paint cleaned up easily, I was surprised how well it stayed on too.

Snazaroo’s Non-Toxic Face Paint Kit is recommended for kids 3+ and is available on Amazon. Their face paint is made in the UK with FDA approved ingredients. It’s suitable for sensitive skin because it’s paraben and fragrance-free, and it’s fully compliant with US and EU toy and cosmetic regulations.
