This football fruit tray is a great appetizer for the Superbowl or any football viewing party you have coming up. It’s healthy and sweet, plus its one of my favorite football shaped appetizer ideas!

I know everyone expects to indulge in sliders, wings, and cheesy dips while watching the big game but a few lighter appetizers are a good idea to balance out the rest of the decadent spread. I am always a fan of fun themed fruit tray ideas, like this football one.

Looking for healthy Super Bowl ideas or lighter party snacks? A football fruit tray works as an appetizer or dessert idea for the big game. It's a simple and fun recipe that kids will love too.

This is one of the easiest super bowl fruit ideas you will find! There are elaborate recipes on Pinterest but I like to stick to easy and fun ideas like this football shaped fruit platter.

Making a football fruit tray isn’t too hard to do. It just takes a little prep work getting your fruit clean and diced before you start assembling it.

Football Fruit Tray Ingredients

  • Strawberries – red fruit
  • Honeydew – green fruit
  • Jicama
Start with strawberries to create a football fruit tray
Strawberries in the shape of a football on an oval platter.

Start by forming the strawberries into the shape of a football. I think raspberries or cubes of watermelon would work great too. These dark red fruit varieties are not quite football brown but do a great job contrasting with the green fruit.

A layer of green honeydew chunks is added around the strawberries.

Add honeydew around the edge of the strawberries and fill the platter. My plate was oval, so sort of football shaped already.

Football Food Platter

I think a large rectangular platter would be cool too. Keep the red fruit football shaped but fill the rest of the tray with green fruit. It would look more like a football on a football field. This football field cutting board would also be super cute.

Green grapes or kiwi would also work great to contrast with the red fruit and create the illusion of the a football field. I’d chose the fruit you like best or is in season where you live.

Add strips of jicama to create the white football laces.

Jicama works great for the football laces. Just cut a few strips and add it to the top of your fruit football. Jicama isn’t very sweet but it’s great with a little salt on it.

This easy football appetizer can be prepped the day before. Just keep it chilled in the refrigerator before your party. You could also add a fun yogurt dip too.

Prefer a Veggie Tray?

You could always combine all the produce together and make a fruit and veggie tray shaped like a football. I personally like to keep my fruits and vegetables separate so I created a separate football veggie tray. I even share a homemade ranch dressing with my super bowl veggie tray idea.
