The most eagerly anticipated Disney parks expansion is almost here. I’m excited to share all the Disneyland Star Wars Land update information I know with you, starting with the Star Wars Land opening date!

Who's ready to drink Blue Milk, fly the Millennium Falcon and battle Kylo Ren and the First Order? You can do all that and more Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge this summer when Star Wars Land opens at Disneyland. Learn all about the unique food options, fun character encounters, new attractions, when it opens, if you will need a reservation and more in this complete Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Guide. #Disneyland #DisneylandResort #StarWarsLand #GalaxysEdge #StarWars #Disneyland2019 #DisneylandStarWars

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Opening Date

Disney just announced the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opening date for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. As anticipated Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will open first, followed Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World a few months later.

  • Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland on May 31, 2019.
  • Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens at Walt Disney World on August 29, 2019.

Disneyland Star Wars Land Update

(Disney Parks)

Beyond the opening date, we learned some important information about accessibility to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland when it first opens. First, only one ride, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will be open during phase one on opening day. The second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance won’t open until later this year. No opening date for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has been released yet.

In addition, guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will need to make a no-cost reservation (in addition to their theme park admission) to access the land. I guess this is to prevent insane crowding in Star Wars Land when it first opens.

Beginning June 24, 2019, a  reservation for Star Wars land will no longer be required. However keep in mind that capacity is limited and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be subject to capacity constraints.

How to make a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Reservation

You can make reservations starting May 2nd on the Disneyland.com website. Staying at one of the official Disney hotels isn’t required but guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (theme park admission is required). So if you are visiting during the first month Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is open, your safest bet is to book a room at either the Disneyland Hotel, the Paradise Pier Hotel or the Grand Californian Hotel. Otherwise, head over to Disneyland.com to grab your reservation on May 2nd.

My friends at Get Away Today can help you book a Disneyland Resort package, plus you can save an extra $10 with my promo code: DCHICA.

Star Wars Galaxy Reservation Restrictions

Note the primary guest making the Galaxy Edge reservations must be 14 years or older with a valid government issued ID. You can add up to 5 additional people on your reservation. Each adult, 18+ must show a government-issued ID. You cannot alter the reservation after it is made (i.e. change the names of the people or the date and time). Everyone 3+ must have a reservation to enter the Galaxy’s Edge. You may only make one Galaxy’s Edge reservation.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will allow guests to immerse themselves in a 14-acre Star Wars playground, complete with character interactions, shopping and Star Wars themed food. From the images, Disney Parks has shared, we know the details and architecture will be amazing and like nothing, any Star Wars fan has ever seen before.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Attractions

Who wants to fly the Millennium Falcon? Me! Me! We will be able to do that on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.  Guests take the controls of the ship in one of three critical roles: pilots, gummers and flight engineers. Remember this attraction will open when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge first opens to the public.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance allows guests to fight Kylo Ren and the First Order. This attraction takes you inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer. This attraction won’t open until later in the year. No date has been announced yet.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Food

Oga’s Cantina will offer exotic drinks and music hosted by DJ R-3X, also known as Rex, the former Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid from the original Star Tours.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo will offer a wide variety of new and unusual dishes.  The dishes created by Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs are inspired by meals he created during his time with Maz Kanata on Takodana.

Blue Milk and Green Milk can be found in the Black Spire Outpost market inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. (David Roark/Disney Parks)

Kat Saka’s Kettle located in the Black Spire Market will sell a unique kettle corn snack! A former smelter droid will be helping cook spits of meat at Ronto Roasters. The Milk Stand will offer two local favorites, Blue Milk and Green Milk!

Build and customize your own R-series or BB-series droid at the Droid Depot. Plus these droids will be capable of interacting with elements in Star Wars Land: Galaxy’s Edge. Want a custom lightsaber instead? Check out Savi’s Workshop – Handbuild Lightsabers.

I love the creatures you can purchase at the Creature Stall. There is also a separate toy stall, the Toydarian Toymaker.

Guests can choose their side and display their loyalties by purchasing gear and accessories at either Resistance Supply or First Order Cargo.

Don’t miss Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities where you can find a large selection of rare items for sale from different Star Wars eras.

Star Wars Character Encounters

Be prepared for some familiar faces on Batuu, it’s possible that Rey, Fin, Poe, BB-8, and Chewie will find themselves stopping at the Black Spire Outpost!

Disneyland Star Wars Land Map

So far no official Disneyland Star Wars Land map has been released. We do know Star Wars: Galaxy Edge will have three entrances at Disneyland. One will be from Fantasyland, another one will be from Frontierland and the 3rd entrance will be found down a trail in Critter Country.  The 3rd entrance seems the coolest to me, I ran into it last year after the Rivers of America had been rerouted. It’s like a hidden trail, right alongside the lower level of the Hungry Bear Restaurant.

Interactive Adventures with Play Disney Parks App

Disney introduced the Play Disney Parks App last year and it offers cool interactive adventures at Disney Parks but Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the first land within Disneyland designed to integrate with the app. Why do you want to use the Play Disney Parks App in Star Wars Land? With the app you can translate a galactic language, learn what’s hidden inside crates, accomplish certain tasks by participating in missions, and interact with a variety of elements in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge like droids, ships, media screens, door panels, and antenna arrays!

Can you use Disney FASTPASS or Disney MaxPass in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?

Nope. As of right now, guests will not be able to use Disney FASTPASS or Disney MaxPass for either the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Fingers crossed that changes in the future!!

Will Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge be open during Magic Morning at Disneyland?

No Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will not be open during Magic Mornings at Disneyland. It will be open during normal park hours.
