We just got back from a fun Disneyland adventure over rodeo break. I loved checking out the new stuff from the past year and of course all of our old favorites. We finally were able to ride Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, Soarin’ Around the World and Hyperspace Mountain. Plus we watched Olaf in the new Frozen – Live at the Hyperion theater, totally fun by the way. We already need to plan a return trip because there are lots of new and returning attractions coming this summer, I don’t know how we can’t wait another year before we visit again. Check out these awesome things to do at Disneyland this summer!
Cool Things To Do At Disneyland This Summer
1. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
The new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride is opening May 27th. Disney’s Tower of Terror was one of my favorite rides at Disney California Adventure but I am super excited about this update. My favorite part of the ride were all the drops and I am pretty sure the new ride will have plenty of those still. Plus who doesn’t love Marvel’s favorite motley bunch of heroes! I. am. Groot. 🙂 The rides premise is that guests are helping Rocket bust his pals out of the Collector’s Fortress and will feature music from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! sounds awesome!
2. Summer of Heroes
Experience extra Marvel fun during Summer of Heroes, May 27th- September 10th. This special event includes an Avengers Training Initiative where the Black Widow and Hawkeye test young guests to see if they skilled enough to join the Avengers. It sounds similar to Jedi Training but I don’t have any details to confirm that. I do know my boys would be all of it though! The Black Widow will also be available several times a day for a heroic encounter complete with an armored Avengers vehicle. Specially themed merchandise and food will also be available in Hollywood Land.
Summer of Heroes will also kick off a few new year-round happenings like Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! and Super Hero Encounters with Groot. Captain America and Spiderman are already available as a meet and greet in Hollywood Land.
3. Main Street Electrical Parade
Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade returned home to Disneyland this year. Catch it now through June 18 August 20th! I am really hoping they extend its stay or are just making a few updates before it returns permanently. It’s a classic parade from my childhood, plus everyone knows how fond I am of Elliot. 😉
4. New Fantasmic Show
An updated Fantasmic show is scheduled to debut sometime this summer. It will include technical upgrades and rumor has the Pirates of the Caribbean will be joining the show. Hopefully, we will have a more official update soon.
5. Disneyland Railroad
The Disneyland Railroad has been closed due to Star Wars Land construction, it is scheduled to reopen sometime this summer. We always ride the trains around the park at least once, so we can’t wait to see them back in operation at Disneyland.
6. Rivers of America
The Rivers of America are also scheduled to open back up this summer including visits to Tom Sawyer’s island and rides on the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia.

7. Disney Junior Dance Party
Playhouse Disney is being replaced with an all new show, Disney Junior Dance Party featuring live appearances from some of your favorite Disney Junior shows like Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First and The Lion Guard.
8. Additional FASTPASS locations and MaxPass?
In January, Disneyland announced they will be adding Toy Story Mania and Matterhorn to the FASTPASS system. Both rides are very popular and will be welcome additions to anyone that prefers not waiting in long lines. In addition, they are introducing the new MaxPass that will cost $10 a day and allow guests to schedule their FastPass times via an app. There is no launch date available yet but I would think that Disneyland would want it running before the summer rush hits the parks!
Update: You can now get a FASTPASS for Toy Story Mania. YAY!!! Matterhorn is still down for refurbishment but I bet when it’s up and running again it will also have a FASTPASS option! No word on a MaxPass date yet but again my money is before summer! 🙂

Bonus Must Sees at the Disneyland Resort
Star Wars
We recently found out that the Star Wars themed land will immerse guests in the middle of a remote trading port, complete with Star Wars characters and two signature attractions. One with guests on a secret mission, flying the Millenium Falcon and another that puts guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance! It doesn’t open until 2019, but there is already lots of Star Wars fun in Tomorrowland. You can catch a sneak peek at the Star Wars Land construction while riding Big Thunder Mountain.
If you haven’t been to Disneyland in the past year or so then don’t miss these either!
