Early last month I took a quick trip to San Francisco for the Rogue One press event. While the focus of the trip was Star Wars, visiting Lucasfilm headquarters to interview the cast of Rogue One and even attending a reception at Skywalker Ranch, we did sneak a few more Disney adventures in including a visit to the Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio Exhibit at the Walt Disney Family Museum.

This was actually my 2nd visit to the museum and The Art of Pinocchio Exhibit last year. My family took a multigenerational trip to San Francisco over fall break and one of our stops was at the Walt Disney Family Museum!

The Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio was open from May 18, 2016 to January 9, 2017. Since you can’t visit it any longer, I thought I’d share a few images from the exhibit.

Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio was presented in the Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall, a separate building just behind The Walt Disney Family Museum. No pictures or videos were allowed inside the actual exhibit but they did have a few fun photo opps outside the gallery.

These artifacts were also on display outside of the gallery. See that book in the display? It’s a pretty amazing book about the making of Pinocchio with lots of historical details and images.

Wish Upon a Star showcased Pinocchio’s creation in 6 different sections: story, design, production, art direction, character development, and animation. There were over 300 objects on display including film clips, flipbooks, conceptual artwork and original hand-drawn artwork. It was very interesting to see how some characters changed dramatically from the original concepts. Check out an early version of Pinocchio in the image below.

For those that missed this exhibit, don’t fret. Pinocchio is being released today on Digital HD and on Blu-ray later this month (1/31)! I’ll be sharing some of the bonus features available on the Blu-ray in a few weeks!

I definitely recommend a visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum on your next trip to San Francisco.  It’s located in the Presidio district which means you can stop by and the visit the Yoda Statue at LucasFilm Headquarters and also catch amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge!

Disney hosted me during the #RogueOneEvent press event. As always, all opinions, and experiences are my own.
