If you love unique Spider-Man variants or need a quick, funny costume idea, the Bombastic Bag-Man (also known as The Amazing Bag-Man) is a total win! This version of Spider-Man first appeared in the comics when Peter Parker borrowed a Fantastic Four uniform and used a paper bag as a mask because he didn’t have his regular suit.

Now, the character’s back in pop culture thanks to Marvel Rivals, where the Bombastic Bag-Man version of Spider-Man appears as a hilarious alt-style skin that fans can’t get enough of. Whether you’re a long-time comic fan or just discovered him through the game, this DIY Bag-Man Spider-Man costume is easy, funny, and totally recognizable.

Elliot wore this to Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland and while our Peter B. Parker and Doctor Olivia Octavius costumes were more recognizable, he did get several people who recognized his cosplay too.

Bag-Man Spider-Man Costume Basics
What do you need to make a Bag-Man costume? This costume is easy to build with items you probably already have or can thrift.
- Red hoodie or sweatshirt – Our DIY modifications are below
- Black shirt
- Bright blue cargo pants – these were perfect
- White athletic tape or wrap for wrist/hand
- Paper grocery bag or cardboard mask
- Black sling bag – Our DIY modifiation are below

DIY the Bag-Man Hoodie
The requires a little modification but it’s fairly easy. Start with a red hoodie, no zipper and preferably no design/logo/label. I found one at a thrift store, you might even have an old one in your closet.
- Short Sleeves – I cut the sleeves and then folded it over and hemmed it to create a short sleeve cuff. You could easily skip the hemming and use fabric tape (or leave it as is if you aren’t worried about it fraying eventually).
- Trapezoid Cut Out- Cut trapezoid-ish shape out of the side of both sides of the sweatshirt starting at the hem. Reference a picture of the Bombastic Bag-Man for help. I also hemmed this but if this is a one time costume for you, then you wouldn’t have to worry about it.
- Empire State University Logo – Iron on a Empire State University Logo in lime green iron-on vinyl.

DIY Sling Bag
Bag-Man might not have fancy web gear in this version, but a black sling bag or even belt bag would work well. It fits his resourceful style perfectly and gives you a place to stash your phone or candy.
We started with a basic sling bag I found for $3 at a thrift store, it was the perfect starting point for this costume piece. The key modifications for me was the lime green stripe and Bombastic Bag-Man figure (Fantastic Four version).

The lime stripe was just lime green vinyl, the sticky version because I didn’t know if I could iron anything on to the cheap nylon material of the bag without it burning/melting. Then we attached a Bombastic Bag-Man Funko Pop using a couple of rubber bands wrapped around it and lopped through a zipper.

My son also found random straps and and an old neoprene camera case that we added. (it pays to hoard stuff???) It made for a more authentic look from the Marvel Rivals Bombastic Bag-Man Spider-Man.
Create the Paper Bag Mask
The paper bag mask is instantly recognizable and the simplest DIY of the costume.
- Grab a brown paper grocery bag. Finding a plain one might be hard, most have store logos on them. We turned one inside out to make one (not easy).
- Cut out two triangle eyes using scissors or a craft knife.
- Cut a zigzag edge along the bottom for a stylized finish.
Pro Tip- Make sure you try on the mask before cutting out the eyes, to make sure you can see well!

We didn’t end up needing the paper bag mask because Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash doesn’t allow masks and neither does my son’s school. We opted to make a flat version of it with cardboard and add a craft stick to hold it. It was a compromise that worked for us.
Complete the Bombastic Bag-Man Spiderman Costume
- Pair your hoodie with bright blue cargo pants or joggers to mirror Spider-Man’s usual color palette.
- Add white athletic tape to both hands for a battle-worn Peter Parker detail.
- Add a black t-shirt underneath the hoodie, it peaks out where you made the side cut outs.
- Wear sneakers for comfort… Barefoot is comic-accurate but maybe not sidewalk-safe!
Bag-Man in Marvel Rivals
Fans of the new Marvel Rivals game will recognize Bag-Man as one of Spider-Man’s alternate skins — a tongue-in-cheek nod to this classic comic moment. The game version highlights the character’s goofy charm while still celebrating Spider-Man’s quick-thinking heroics.
This costume is a fun way to bring that energy to life in real-world cosplay form — and it’s perfect for gaming events, conventions, or Halloween.

This DIY Bag-Man Spider-Man costume is proof that great cosplay doesn’t need to be complicated. With a few closet staples, a paper bag, and a sense of humor, you can channel one of Marvel’s funniest and most relatable heroes.
It’s comfy, budget-friendly, and guaranteed to make people smile — just the way Peter Parker would want it.
