Taking the boys to see the Blue Man Group has been on my radar for a few years. I’d heard from friends that it was a fun show but I really didn’t know what to expect. When we were given media tickets to the show during our last visit to Universal Orlando, I was excited to check it out. I was pretty sure the boys would love it and they did! Check out my advice when taking kids to see the Blue Man Group.
The Blue Man group is an interactive experience perfect for multigenerational groups, everyone from grandkids to grandparents will enjoy the show. There is no dialogue unless you count the audience members that get pulled into the show. It’s a visual and audio show with interactive choreography full of physical jokes and loud music.
Be aware that if you sit in the first few rows, you are given a poncho because you will likely be hit with food or paint during the show. We sat just behind that section and loved the experience. My boys begged to sit closer though. Maybe next time we’ll go for the full “Gallagher” experience. 🙂
Blue Man Group Tips
Can Kids Go To The Show?
The show is open to all ages but they recommend it for kids ages 3 years and older. In fact, guests are encouraged to sing, laugh and dance, perfect for wiggly kids. That being said, I don’t think an infant would appreciate the loud sounds, music and silly jokes of the show.
Bring Ear Protection!
My number one recommendation when going to a Blue Man Group show is to bring ear protection for everyone, especially for kids. The show is fun but can very loud. Ear plugs are available from the theater but for the kids, I’d recommend bringing your own safety headphones. Most kids don’t like sticking things in their ears and certainly won’t keep them in their ears. I think it’s best to keep their ears safe with safety headphones.
Request a Booster Seat
To make sure kiddos can see the show, the Blue Man Group offers booster seats. Just inquire with an usher when you arrive at the theater. The booster seat allowed my youngest an unobstructed view of the show.
Be Aware There Is No Intermission
The shows run at least 90 minutes and there is no intermission. Make sure your kiddos go to the bathroom before the show.
Snacks Are Available
Concessions are available in the lobby and food can be brought to your seats in the theater. We had a few snacks leftover in our backpack from our visit to Universal Studios that the boys munched on during the show.
Budget Friendly Souvenirs
There are a variety of souvenirs available to purchase, including fun light up toys. We found some reasonable options (~$10) out front before the show started.
Blue Man Group Pictures
The theater is dark making it difficult to get great photos during the show. If you stick around after the show you can get selfies with some of the Blue Men and their band.
Everyone enjoyed the show a lot. We’d be happy to watch another performance the next time we are in a city where the Blue Man Group performs. Have you seen the Blue Man Group perform before?
