One of my favorite DIY costume styles is a DIY costume hoodie! I’ve created quite a few hoodie costumes over the years and I’ve rounded them up along with a few more in this list of DIY Costume Hoodie Ideas.
Halloween Costume Hoodie Supplies
Before I show you some fun Halloween costume hoodie ideas, let’s talk about what materials you need to make a DIY hoodie costume. Obviously, you need a hoodie sweatshirt in the right color for the costume you are making.
I like going the frugal route and tend to check thrift stores for the right color hoodie first. If I don’t get lucky and find what I need there, then I usually head to Amazon. You can find pretty much any color hoodie sweatshirt in any size you need.
I decorate the hoodie costumes with felt whenever possible. Felt doesn’t fray so you don’t have to hem it and it can easily be hand sewn or hot-glued on to a costume! I also like to use duct tape and pipe cleaners.
DIY Costume Hoodies
I used pipe cleaners on one of my favorite DIY costume hoodies of all time. My Olaf Costume Hoodie has been quite popular over the years and I expect it to be super popular next year when Disney releases Frozen 2! Everyone loves Olaf and he makes an adorable DIY costume hoodie!
My other favorite hoodie costume is one I made last year for Disney Junior’s show, Puppy Dog Pals. I opted to make a Bingo, Puppy Dog Pals Hoodie Costume but you could easily switch the colors and create a Rolly version of the costume instead. He is almost as cute as Bingo. 😉
Hank from Finding Dory is really is sweet in a cantankerous sort of way. This Hank the Octopus Hoodie Costume was a fun costume to make, you can add 8 arms like we did or make it a little more accurate and only give him 7 arms!
DIY Hoodie Costumes
My boys loved Big Hero 6 when it came out a few years ago. So making a DIY Hiro Hoodie Costume and DIY Baymax Costume seemed like a fabulous idea. You can just make one but I really think these work great together as a pair!
This Sulley from Monsters Inc Costume isn’t actually a hoodie costume but my original idea was to use a hooded sweatshirt. The problem was that I couldn’t find the right color hoodie at the time. So I improvised and used a t-shirt and knit hat instead.
With Ralph Breaks the Internet opening in theaters soon, I bet this Vanellope von Schweetz Costume Hoodie will be quite popular this year!
Another fun girl character costume is this DIY Wyldstyle costume from the LEGO Movie. This costume is perfect for someone that doesn’t want to permanently alter their black hoodie! All I used was duct tape to create the ‘wyld’ design on the hoodie!
Animal Hoodie Costumes
Unicorns are super popular right now. So I bet you know someone would love this pretty Homemade Unicorn Hoodie Costume!
I am a super fan of how adorable and simple this DIY Dino hoodie costume is! Check out this sweet DIY Macaroni Penguin Hoodie Costume made by an animal super fan!
There are quite a few adorable animal costumes to be made with a hoodie sweatshirt. Don’t want to make your own hoodie costumes? You can buy this sweet Shark Hoodie Costume or Fox Hoodie Costume already made!
Costume Hoodies
I really liked this no-sew Pokemon Hoodie Costume. She did a great job creating an Ash Ketchum, Pokemon trainer costume!
Who’s ready for an easy DIY Bluey costume? Make your own Bingo and Bluey costume using hoodies.
The Peanuts are a classic and I think a Snoopy stuffed animal (or a football) would make this Charlie Brown Hoodie Costume complete and perfect for a simple Halloween costume!
Need a book character costume for your school spirit week? This Dr. Seuss Lorax Hoodie Costume is a fun solution!
