The Lorax is definitely my boys’ favorite Dr. Seuss character. I guess they appreciate someone that speaks for trees. 🙂 So we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a super easy DIY Lorax costume.

Easy Lorax Costume Idea

You know I love easy, fun costumes so this project was a no brainer for me. Especially when I can make a hoodie costume!

All you need is an orange hoodie and yellow felt. I originally hoped to find yellow fur but it wasn’t readily available. No problem though because the yellow felt worked great!

How to Make a Lorax Costume

I printed my Lorax mustache template at 640% for a fun, oversized mustache. The eye brow shapes started as 1/2 of the mustache template. I trimmed it up a bit and added few details to get the right look.

Before working with the felt, I doubled up two pieces of felt and hot glued it together to make it sturdier. You might be able to skip that step o possibly buy a thicker felt to beging with. I just used the felt I had on hand in my craft supplies.

I used very basic skills to attach the eyebrows with a hand stich and hook & eye fasteners for the mustache.

I attached the mustache to the sides of the hoodie using hook and eye fasteners. I had to test it out on Q first to figure out the best placement which will vary with each child and sweatshirt.

I attached the eye brows with a couple of quick stitches to the top of the hood, making sure they would hang down a little over the edge.

That’s it! Pair it with orange pants or legging and you are done! Want to skip the diy mustache and eyebrows? Just buy them.

The costume even worked great for little brother too. The more oversized the eyebrows and mustache the better.

Overall this quick project turned out better than I anticipated. It would be great as an easy Halloween costume especially if you have big Dr. Seuss fans or are in a school district that only allows kids to dress up as book characters!

And hey what a fun way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday or even Earth Day! I know it’s a fun, silly addition to our dress up box!
