Which came first, the Duke Caboom pumpkin or the Duke Caboom costume? The costume of course, even though I published the Toy Story pumpkin idea first.

Sometimes costumes take a little bit more time depending upon what you have on hand and what details you need to recreate. The DIY Toy Story 4 Duke Caboom Costume for kid and adults was fairly easily to put together.

Duke’s costume is really just a lot of red and white pieces of clothing. The hardest part for me was the cape, followed by the motorcycle helmet.

Other than that you just need white, long sleeved, button down shirt, more explorer style vs. suit shirt. You also need a red turtle neck, white pants and white shoes. I used red duct tape to create the stripes on the white pants and shirt.

How to make a Duke Caboom Costume From Toy Story 4

Now if you own a white motorcycle helmet, then creating the Duke Caboom helmet is fairly easy. Just add a strip of red duct tape along the top.

We didn’t have a white helmet but we had found a used black one last year for Quinn’s Fortnite Dark Voyager costume. We simply primed it and then spray painted the helmet white for this year’s costume.

Then I added my strip of red duct tape. Hopefully you own or can borrow a white bike or motorcycle helmet. We bought our black on last year at a used sporting goods store.

How To Make A Duke Caboom Cape

The cape was a bit harder for me to master because I wanted to duplicate Duke Caboom’s cape but I really struggled with it.

I tried duct tape and just couldn’t get all the red ‘sunburst’ graphics along the edge to look right. So I cut myself some slack and decided to just go with a red maple leaf design.

I used my Cricut to cut the maple leaf design from red adhesive vinyl It’s a simplified version of Duke Caboom’s cape but I think it worked great. The cape itself was made using simple white felt, I used an existing cape from our costume box as a template.

Duke Caboom Costume Materials

The last two Duke Caboom details are a red maple leaf for the belt/shirt and a stick on mustache. The only mustache I could find was black, a brown mustache would be a better fit.

My son didn’t need a belt for this costume, so we just stuck the red maple leaf on his shirt, where a belt buckle would likely be. I used my Cricut again for this, just cutting a smaller version of the cape design.

Who is Duke Caboom?

If you haven’t watched Toy Story 4 yet, then you might be wondering who Duke Caboom is. Duke Caboom is the a 1970’s style toy based on Canada’s greatest daredevil and stuntman.

You could say he is the Canadian Evel Knievel. He comes with a stunt-cycle and is known for making lots of crazy stunt poses.  He becomes and ally of Woody and Bo Beep when they are working to rescue Forky from Gabby Gabby.

Toy Story Family Costumes

Are you ready to have a Toy Story family costume theme this year? There are so many character options make it perfect for a group costume theme for family or friends. Another fun character we met in Toy Story 4 is Forky, a Forky costume is fairly easy to make as well.

Bo Peep isn’t a new character but she was absent in Toy Story 3 and made her return in Toy Story 4. My friend Tania has a super cute Toy Story Bo Peep cosplay idea.

Let’s not forget about all the regular Toy Story favorites like a Cowboy Woody costume and DIY Jessie costume.
