Looking for a fun and easy Spider-Verse Halloween costume? This DIY Dr. Olivia Octavius costume from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is surprisingly simple to put together with a little shopping and a few homemade details.
Olivia Octavius, also known as Doc Ock, is one of the villains in the animated Spider-Verse movie. Her colorful clothes, oversized glasses, messy hair and white lab coat make her a fun character to recreate.
We decided to dress up as Spider-Verse characters for Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash, and I chose Olivia Octavius. I skipped the complicated mechanical tentacles and focused on her everyday scientist look instead.

How to Make an Olivia Octavius Costume
I shopped around looking for a bright blue top and purple skirt that matched Olivia’s outfit in the movie. I ended up buying a purple dress instead of a skirt because it was the best color match I could find.
Then I bought a blue shirt and cropped it to create the look of a separate top and skirt. Layering the cropped shirt over the dress worked perfectly! I also didn’t have to worry about the skirt being the perfect size to fit my waist.
I added my own black leggings and borrowed a white lab coat to complete the outfit. I always see lots of lab coats at the thrift store around Halloween stashed in the costume section.
Finding Olivia Octavius Accessories
The scarf took a little more effort. I visited several thrift stores looking for something similar to Olivia’s colorful scarf before finally finding one that was close enough.
I also bought the perfect white glasses on Amazon. I popped out the dark lenses so I could wear the glasses as empty frames. Between the glasses, scarf and lab coat, the costume really started coming together.
DIY Olivia Octavius Headband and Hair

Olivia has a colorful headband and a huge, messy hairstyle in the movie.
To recreate her headband, I cut strips of green, blue and yellow felt and sewed them together to make one long strip. Then I glued smaller strips of purple felt across the top to recreate the colorful pattern. It took maybe 30 minutes to make it.
The one thing I couldn’t quite recreate was Olivia’s enormous, voluminous hair. A big messy wig would have worked great, but since we were wearing our costumes to Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash, I knew it would be too hot for a wig.
Instead, I pulled my own hair into a messy updo and added the homemade felt headband using bobby pins to hold it in place.
If you’re wearing this costume somewhere cooler, a big curly brown wig would be a fun addition!

One of the easiest ways to make this costume recognizable is with an Alchemax scientist badge.
I created a printable Olivia Octavius name badge with the Alchemax logo, just like the badge she wears in the movie.
Simply print the badge, cut it out and slide it into a plastic name badge holder. I used a retractable badge clip to attach mine to the lab coat.

DIY Spider-Verse Family Costumes

We wore our Spider-Verse costumes to Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash, and it was a fun theme for the three of us.
My kids dressed up as two other Spider-Man characters. One wore our DIY Bombastic Bag-Man Spider-Man costume, and the other dressed as Peter B. Parker in his pink bathrobe outfit.
I love that all three costumes are a little different from the typical Spider-Man costume!
