Ready for another book character costume? This is a unique one, the Lord of the Hat costume is from the Creature in My Closet series.

The Lord of the Hat is crazy mixed up character in the Creature From My Closet Book Series. The Lord of the Hat costume is part Gollum and part Cat in the Hat

Typically when one boy wants something, the other follows suit. So after Quinn requested a Potterwookiee costume from The Creature From My Closet series, Elliot wanted his own Creature From My Closet costume. He hasn’t read the series yet, so he didn’t have a strong opinion on which character he wanted to be, so I chose to make him a Lord of the Hat costume.

The Lord of the Hat character is part Gollum, part Cat in the Hat and seemed like an easy costume to put together. There are only two small DIY parts and the rest of the costume can be pieced together with purchased accessories.

Lord of the Hat Costume Supplies
  • Tan towel and velcro
  • Red Christmas bow
  • Cat in the Hat hat
  • Black socks
  • Cat tail
  • Cardboard and gold duct tape

I cut out a large circle out of cardboard and covered it with gold duct tape to create Gollum’s “precious” ring. I trimmed a tan towel down to size and added velcro to secure it around his waist.

That’s basically it. Add the hat, long black socks to his right arm and right leg, attach the black cat tail and red Christmas bow and you are done.

Don’t forget to carry your “precious” gold ring! You could go the extra mile and paint your skin a pasty gray color too. Elliot’s pale skin was a close enough match for us. 😉

Don’t miss Quinn’s Potterwookiee costume, it also turned out great! And if you have a boy in elementary school, make sure you check out The Creature From My Closet series by Obert Skye, it’s super fun!
