Trendy costumes can be cool, especially if you make it your own with a unique or funny twist. The VSCO girl trend exploded last year and my oldest couldn’t help notice it when he started middle school. So he opted for a funny and trendy Halloween costume last year with his unique and a super easy VSCO boy skeleton costume.

A boy skeleton costume is pretty traditional and simple to pull off, you might already own one or could borrow one from a friend. Then add a few accessories and you could have a fun themed skeleton costume like our VSCO skeleton costume.

VSCO Costume Accessories
What are VSCO Costume accessories? There are quite a few VSCO girl options that you can choose from and hopefully borrow if you don’t already own them. VSCO girls are known for Crocs, hair scrunchies, Birkenstocks, Fjallraven Kanken backpacks, Hydro Flask water bottles, and puka shell necklaces. They are also passionate about ‘Saving the turtles’ by not using plastic straws, and saying things like ‘sksksk’ and ‘I Oop’. I am sure there are more ideas you can come with, especially if you know a VSCO girl but those are just a few ideas to get started.
We did have to buy a few VSCO costume accessories because I don’t have a VSCO girl at home. Quinn already had a Hydro Flask water bottle covered in stickers. The one hair scrunchie I owned wasn’t enough because apparently you wear scrunchies like bracelets on your arm. You can also add them to your water bottle. So I bought a full rainbow set of scrunchies similar to this set.
Then I got a little crafty with a white tank top. I created a VSCO girl shirt using my Cricut Maker and Design Space. Design Space made this project so easy, I was able to create a fun VSCO shirt using existing text and images within Design Space. The front of the shirt says “Save the Turtles” with a turtle image. The back of the shirt says “sksksk” in rainbow colors.
If you’d like to use the designs I created, go ahead and click through and you will be able to connect to both ideas in Design Space. Use the VSCO costume shirt, turtle design here. Use the VSCO costume shirt, sksksk design here. I created my design based on the existing colors of iron-on vinyl I had on hand, you can change the colors to fit your own needs within Design Space.

That’s it, fairly easy to pull together, right? In fact, there would be no DIY involved if you had or borrowed a VSCO shirt. The costume was very comfortable to wear, although keep weather in mind when considering this idea. We also added black face paint around the eyes, black gloves and a little black fabric to cover the opening at his neck.
