We are headed back to Walt Disney World really soon, so I thought it’d be the perfect time to share our thoughts on a few resorts we have already stayed at. A few days ago I shared why we love Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, today I am jumping down a few pegs price wise and sharing why we love Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
5 Reasons We Love Disney’s Pop Century Resort
Paying under $100 a night at Disney World Resort is pretty sweet in my opinion. The bulk of our experience is in California and you will never find any of the Disneyland Resort hotels that low. Staying at a Disney resort gives you great extra perks including Disney’s Magical Express, transportation to all the parks, and Extra Magic Hours. That’s a sweet deal when you are only paying $100 a night!
The Pop Century theming very kid friendly. It’s big and in your face, at least on the outside with larger than life statues of Mickey Mouse, Mr & Mrs Potato, Baloo, Roger Rabbit, and more. Naturally music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s is played at the resort. You might even catch a fun dance session in the main hall, it’s usually “The Twist” or “The Hustle.” The waiting area in the lobby features free, classic arcade games, can you get any more kid friendly?
Pop Century doesn’t share buses with any other resort. This may not sound like a big deal but it is. When staying at the much more expensive Yacht Club we had some issues getting to the Magic Kingdom because the Yacht Club shares buses with several other resorts in the area. Sometimes the bus was already full by the time it arrived at the Yacht Club. The Pop Century buses go straight from the resort to the parks, no stopping for additional passengers!
4. Food Court
I don’t think food courts offer amazing dining opportunities but I do appreciate their variety, pricing and quickness. It was very easy to grab a quick meal or snack at just about any time during our stay.
5. Proximity to Art of Animation Resort
It’s an easy 5-minute walk to the Art of Animation Resort from most rooms at Pop Century. It’s always fun to check out other Disney Properties and Art of Animation is exceptionally themed for little kids. They also offer a super fun water-themed playground and their food court had different options from Pop Century. A change of scenery and more food choices is always appreciated.
3 Reasons We Don’t Love Disney’s Pop Century Resort
Of course it’s not all peaches and cream, there are some things we don’t love about Pop Century.
1. No Waterslide or Spa
My oldest loves water slides and my husband enjoys a good spa. Neither is available at Pop Century which is a bummer. The main pool does have water sprayers for added fun and there’s a small splash pad for little kids.
2. Very Basic Rooms
I really don’t need fancy rooms at Disney, I’m there to visit the parks. That being said, I want to make it clear that Pop Century rooms are definitely “Motel 6” basic. They offer 2 double beds rather than queen beds which I don’t love. They also don’t have patios or the additional square footage to allow for a desk or extra storage. The rooms at Pop Century are completely adequate but I don’t LOVE basic rooms with limited storage.
3. No Restaurants
We prefer a food court to table service when at Disney. Mostly it’s a budgeting thing but it’s also a timing thing, it’s so much easier to just pop in and grab something quick rather than wait for a table, wait to be served, wait for our check, etc. However, a sit-down place would be a nice option when you want to take a longer break.
