My boys get a new ornament each year, it’s a tradition I love because all of the ornaments on our tree are sentimental. This year I made Elliot a Fortnite Christmas ornament to match his Tomato Head costume from Halloween.

This Fortnite ornament is the perfect DIY Christmas ornament for kids who love video games. After making a Tomato Head Fortnite costume for Halloween, I knew I could make this DIY Fortnite using the same template. It makes a fun Christmas craft to give as a gift for friends or as a decoration on your tree. DIY Crafts Projects | Painted Ornaments DIY | Fortnite Party Decorations

I often choose ornaments based on the boy’s current interests or hobbies, so making Fortnite Christmas ornaments seemed like a no brainer. Elliot wore a tomato head Fortnite costume for Halloween this year.

How to make a Fortnite Christmas Ornament

This is a pretty simple ornament to create as long as you have a Cricut or other vinyl cutting machine. If you are artistic, you could also just paint the face on. I do not have the skills for that though, so I love using vinyl.

Supplies for the Fortnite ornament include paint, felt, pipe cleaner and vinyl

Tomato Head Ornament Materials

  • Jumbo plastic clear ornament
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Green felt
  • Green pipe cleaner
  • Black, white and brown vinyl

Start with a large round clear ornament. Squirt some red acrylic paint in it and swirl it around until it coats the inside. Then dump out the excess paint. If you are impatient like me, then you put way too much red paint in, to begin with, and will have lots of red paint to dump out.

Then I used my Cricut to create the Tomato Head face out of vinyl. I used the same Tomato Head face template in Design Space that I created for the costume. I just sized the overall size down to about 2 inches total.

Once it’s cut, just stick the vinyl on the ornament. I just referred to a picture of the Tomato head to help me place the face on the ornament.

The last step is to create the stem and leaves for the top of the Tomato Head. I used a green pipe cleaner and green felt, just like in the costume. This time I used my Cricut Maker to cut the felt out, the smaller the project the weaker my scissor skills. You could pick any basic leaf outline or use my leaf file here.

Fold one green pipe cleaner 3 or 4 times to make the stem height proportionate to the ornament size. Then hot glue the leaves in place and you are done.

DIY Fortnite Ornament

That’s it! Elliot was pretty excited to see the special Fortnite ornament I made him. I love that the cost was minimal and the project was easy. I just used scrap vinyl and felt from my craft stash.
