Are you ready for a scary Marvel costume? How about a Zombie Captain America costume? Technically our version isn’t too scary and it fit’s within our family costume theme of What If Marvel costumes this year.

Pin this easy Zombie Captain America costume for Halloween

As Marvel fans, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dress up as characters from the new Marvel What If… show during the Oogie Boogie Bash, on our recent trip to Disneyland. Plus the after hours event is held at Disney California Adventure where the Avengers campus just opened. We were excited to pick a Marvel costume theme this year.

Zombie Captain America Costume

The easiest way to make a zombie Captain America costume is to just modify an old costume you have on hand. Those one piece costumes you can can buy would be perfect for cutting up and distressing for a zombie look.

Unfortunately my child is almost 6 feet tall, and adult Captain America costumes are much harder to come by used. I scoured yard sale groups online and thrift stores locally and never had any luck with an adult size costume.

Cut up and distress a regular Captain America costume to create the zombie version.

Instead I bought a long sleeve Captain America costume shirt and blue pants that I modified. It still turned out great.

Zombie Captain America Shirt

Originally I bought a Captain America costume hoodie but the blue was too light on it, almost a baby blue.. It really didn’t look like Captain America to us. I liked the idea of a hoodie because the mask would be built into the top but it didn’t work out for us.

Amazon saved us though, I found a long sleeve costume shirt that worked great. I took screen shots from the Marvel What If show and cut up the shirt to mimic the design.

Basically you want to completely remove the left arm all the way up to the shoulder. And then cut off the right arm sleeve just past the elbow. Make the cuts jagged and raggedy.

Zombie Captain America Pants

I found a pair of blue pants at the thrift store that I cut up. I made sure the edges were jagged and not smooth cuts. I also added extra cuts and holes in the pants to make it look ragged. I add red fabric behind some of the holes to give the illusion of leg wounds.

Zombie Captain America Mask

We just bought a regular Cap mask for him to wear. Be careful on sizing for this, the first one we ordered was too small and sized better for a kid.

Zombie Captain America Shield

If you already own a Captain America shield (because you are a super Marvel fan), then you are set.

We didn’t have any big ones so we made one using poster board and duct tape, similar to my Captain Carter shield. It was light weight making it easy to carry and cheap to make. Check out how to make a Captain America shield.

Zombie Captain America Make Up

We aren’t really big into costume make up, so we kept it pretty simple with gray face paint and a little black around the eyes. You could obviously get really elaborate and as grotesque as you want.

Check out this super fun photo I doctored using some zombie effects, it can help you see how the costume could look if you made your zombie makeup more elaborate.

I edited this picture to show more zombie effects if you wore more elaborate Halloween makeup.

What If Zombie Captain America

Zombie Captain America is a character that appears in episode X of Marvel’s What If… show on Disney+. Basically it shows what happens if some of the Avengers turn into zombies. There is a zombie outbreak and some of your favorite Marvel characters turn while other Marvel characters are trying to survive and find a cure.

Marvel Entertainment also references to a zombie Captain America in the comic books.

New Villains at Disneyland

A Marvel zombie and witch are the new villains at Disney California Adventure on the Avengers Campus. During the Oogie Boogie Bash, Agatha Harkness makes an appearance at the trick or treat trail on the Avengers Campus.

And starting in mid October, new addition to the villains at Disney California Adventure is a Zombie Captain America. You can meet this scary version of Steve Rogers at the park during the Halloween party.

We were literally at the Oogie Boogie Bash 5 days before he arrived and just missed seeing him. Hopefully next year they will include zombie Iron Man, Bucky Barnes, Doctor Strange or Sharon Carter.
