DIY Emmet LEGO Movie Costume Materials
- Blue long sleeve shirt
- Orange shorts/pants
- Orange safety vest
- Construction hard hat
- Red string backpack
- ID badge holder
This is definitely one of my favorite costumes. The base of the costume is regular clothes which means you might already own them and if you don’t they can be used again in regular life. Quinn had already owned orange shorts, and I found the long sleeve button down blue shirt at a local consignment store. The shirt is a great addition to his wardrobe and will be used for special occasions.
I found both a basic orange safety vest and red string backpack at our local 99 Cents Only Store. The safety vest is one size fits all so it was quite large on Quinn. I used silver duct tape to add detail to the vest and size it down.
I stuffed the red back pack with cardboard boxes to give it a rectangular LEGO shape. I also duct taped a small plastic bowl (empty jello cup) to the top, to create the iconic LEGO top. The red duct tape covered both the cardboard box top and jello cup.
We already had a yellow hard hat in the costume box, a little red spray paint made it perfect!
I printed this sweet Emmet badge I found online and just stuck it inside an ID badge holder I had from a blog conference.
I can’t wait until Halloween when we will have the whole LEGO Movie family costume party! I’ll be sure to share pictures of all our fun costumes soon!
