Our family costume theme last year was Disney’s DuckTales. DuckTales costumes is a great group Halloween costume theme because there are lots of characters in the DuckTales universe.

Lots of fun characters to choose from and a theme song I can’t help always singing along with (Woo-oo) makes a Ducktales Halloween a perfect costume theme!

DIY DuckTales Costume Ideas

Pin these costumes Halloween and host a Ducktales Halloween Party

We had a lot of Duckburg citizens represented during our annual family Halloween party. Most of our costume inspiration came from the updated 2017 DuckTales version. You’ll find the following costume tutorials below: Uncle Scrooge, Mrs. Beakley, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica De Spell, Magica’s shadow, Lena (a new character) and the Beagle Boys.

Additional DuckTales costume ideas include Donald, Daisy, Huey, Duey and Louey, Webbie, Ma Beagle, and Launchpad McQuack.

Our Ducktales Halloween crew included a wide variety of Ducktales costume ideas

How to Make DuckTales Costumes

All of the costumes listed below are ones my family made for our annual Halloween party. Check out the tutorials but if you prefer I’ve also seen a few DuckTales costumes you can purchase online. You know that I like the DIY route best but I won’t judge you if you just want to buy them!

The easiest Ducktales costume to make is a Beagle Boys costume

DIY Beagle Boys Costume

  • red t-shirt
  • black “B” (felt or duct tape works great)
  • black eye masks
  • green hats
  • jeans

I always thought my cat burglar costume was one of the easiest costumes ever but the Beagle Boys costume is even easier. They were a no brainer choice for my husband and oldest son because we would be dressing up as Duck Tales characters during Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash and also at our annual family themed costume party.

I share the costume details in the my Beagle Boys costume post but the gist of it is a green hat, a red shirt with a black “B” on it, jeans and a black eye mask.

DIY Magica Costumes

Magica De Spell is a major villain in DuckTales. She is an evil sorceress that is obsessed with obtaining Scrooge’s Number One Dime. We ended up with 2 different Magica De Spell costumes for our Duck Tales family theme. I dressed up as regular Magica from the DuckTales 2017 reboot.

Magica De Spell Costume

  • black and purple cape
  • black dress
  • staff
  • purple amulet
  • long black gloves
  • purple hair extensions

Magica wears a long black dress with black cape with purple lining. I already owned a long black sundress that worked well for a warm Arizona (and Disneyland) Halloween party. I bought a plain black Dracula cape and lined it with purple fabric. To avoid sewing, I just used Fabric Fusion which is like a fabric glue. My lining wasn’t perfect, but it worked out pretty well.

Magica also wears a purple amulet, long black gloves and has purple streaks in her hair. I found purple hair extensions at a local dollar store and hot glued them to a black headband.

I attempted to clip them to my hair but they wouldn’t stay in place; the headband was the perfect solution. To create the amulet, I covered a piece of round cardboard with leftover purple fabric and stapled a simple chain to the back.

Uncle Scrooge is the most key character for a Ducktales Halloween in my opinion

Magica’s Shadow Costume

  • long sleeve black dress
  • black wig
  • black mask with red eyes
  • witch hands painted black
  • black body suit (optional)

My mom loves to be the scariest thing she can be within our family costume theme. Magica’s shadow was the scariest thing we could find in DuckTales. This was a tough costume to DIY because basically it’s just a black shadow version of Magica with glowing red eyes and claw like nails.

My mom found a long sleeve black dress that she paired with a black turtle neck for maximum skin coverage. A black body suit might work well underneath a black dress as well.

She added red gel clings (the kind you decorate mirrors with during the holidays) to create red eyes on black face mask. This allowed her to still see when wearing the mask.

She found creepy witch hands with long nails at a dollar store and painted them black. A black wig finished the look.

DuckTales Lena Costume

  • black and grey striped sweater
  • light teal shirt
  • green converse shoes
  • purple amulet
  • pink hair

Lena is a new character to the DuckTales universe, introduced during the 1st season of the reboot show. Introduced as Magica’s niece, it turns out she is more of a reluctant spy for Magica, I don’t want to give any more details but she starts out as a bad guy but really is a good guy.

Her outfit consists of an oversized light teal shirt, black and grey striped sweater and bright green converse shoes. She also has a wide stripe of pink hair if you can pull that off. Elliot’s hair was pretty dark, so it came out more like a dark red/pin stripe.

Lena and Magica wear the same amulet, so I made a second one just like above with leftover purple fabric, cardboard and a glue gun. Then we covered a pair of converse with bright green duct tape.

DIY Scrooge McDuck Costume

  • red jacket with black details
  • black tophat
  • black cane
  • glasses

For an uncle Scrooge costume you need a red jacket (with black accents), a black top hat and black cane. Scrooge of course doesn’t wear pants but I recommend you include them in your costume. No need to scare the neighbors. 😉

Instead of a red jacket, we opted for a long sleeve red shirt and added details using black duct tape. Add a wide silver ribbon to a black top hat and that was all the DIY we had to do. I’d recommend buying a black cane, or painting it black which we forgot to do. 🙂

Easy Mrs. Beakley Costume

  • light purple button down shirt
  • darker purple cardigan
  • grey skirt
  • darker grey tights
  • white apron
  • large glasses
  • white gloves
  • turquoise necklace

A few key costume pieces of a Mrs. Beakley costume is a purple sweater, grey skirt, white apron and large glasses. You may already own or can borrow most of the costume pieces for Mrs. Beakley. If you hair is long enough, put it up in a bun. The only DIY we had to do for this costume was the white apron which is fairly distinctive.

I made the apron for the Mrs. Beakley costume

I cut a large rectangle (eyeballing the size) out of scrap white fabric. Make it a little larger than you need to because you need to cut scalloped edges on three sides and fold the top over when adding strap around the waist. I cut a long piece to create the strap and 2 smaller squares to create pockets. You could sew all the pieces together but I used Fabric Fusion.

Flintheart Glomgold Costume

  • green and gold plaid kilt
  • blue jacket
  • green golf hat with orange pompom
  • brown vest
  • brown cane
  • glasses

Scrooge has several enemies besides Magica, one of them is Flintheart Glomgold. He wears a green plaid kilt and golf hat along with a navy sports coat. Finding the perfect plaid kilt or skirt is possible if you have time and enjoy thrifting. We didn’t have enough time but found a green and blue plaid skirt that worked fairly well. A navy jacket, brown vest and cane were also found at a thrift store.

How I made Flintheart Glomgold’s signature golf hat

We did DIY Flintheart’s golf hat using duct tape and yarn. Take an existing golf hat and cover it in green duct tape then attach an oversized orange pompom on top. There are lots of tutorials online for making a yarn pom pom, just make sure it’s extra large.
