I am not always the first to jump on trends but apparently ugly Halloween sweaters are a thing. Christmas doesn’t get to have all the ugly sweater fun. And since I had so much fun last year with my ugly Christmas sweater cookies, I decided that I should try my hand at ugly Halloween sweater cookies too.

I love how easy it is to decorate ugly Halloween sweater cookies. Just stick to Halloween themed colors and anyone can come up with a crazy Halloween sweater design! There is no right or wrong when decorating these cookies.

Easy Halloween Cookies

These fun cookies come together easily whether you want to use your grandma’s favorite sugar cookie cut out recipe or a cookie mix from the grocery store. The key is rolling out the cookie dough and using a sweater cookie cutter.

Once you’ve baked the sweater shaped cookies and let them cool, it’s time for a little fun. Gather a variety of Halloween themed sprinkles, and frosting. I made a simple batch of homemade buttercream frosting and divvied it up into 4 small bowls. I thought black, purple, green and orange frosting would be the most Halloween-ish. But blood red and ghost white frosting would also be fun options.

If you are going to let the kids decorate cookies or guests at a Halloween party, consider setting up a fun ugly Halloween cookie sweater cookie decorating station with all the supplies close at hand. Hopefully this helps keeping the mess contained better.

You could even have a contest for the best Halloween sweater cookies with prizes for the ugliest, spookiest and cutest cookies. Decorating ugly Halloween sweater cookies does double duty, it is both a party activity and fun dessert.
